Artist Statement

Our focus centres around biomorphic abstraction and the mesmerising visual landscapes it unveils. Our creations blend light, video, auditory elements, and artistic research to challenge the limits of perception, guiding the viewers into a realm of boundless imagination. Inspired by the interplay between the structures of the Anthropocene era, nature, urban landscapes, and biomimetic principles, our work provides a lens through which to view our world’s wonders and question our role in it. In our architectural spatial installations and projection mappings, we weave audiovisual storytelling, enriching the narrative experience. These immersive journeys bridge digital and analogue narratives and materials, creating captivating cross-sensory experiences. In Atelier Mejía\Wälz, we invite people to embark on an exploration where art and science converge, transcending conventional boundaries with
innovation and creativity.

We focus on natural biological processes to raise interest in our immediate environment, where the natural world reveals different strategies that can make a significant contribution to solving the ecological and environmental problems of our time. We have conceived an experimental workflow that makes visible the hidden biological processes around us: through images of different microenvironments, our works often offer viewers a glimpse into the organic structures of different plants in site-specific environments. With the increasing impact of climate change, there is an urgent need to rethink our relationship with nature and the environment, and to develop new infrastructural models to help us survive in a rapidly changing climate.
